Every guitar player around wants to pick up a fine vintage instrument like those played by the legends. However, these days there are more than just musicians looking for masterpiece instruments from the 1930s through the early 1970s. Vintage guitars are a great investment that only increases in value. You might be asking yourself whether a guitar can really be a good investment. After all, to the untrained eye, most guitars are the same. However, the right guitar can be worth a lot to a collector. Guitars that have been owned by celebrities, or which are rare or unusual, can command very high prices indeed. If you’re worried about getting a return on your money, don’t be. Vintage guitars have consistently performed with more stability than the stock market. There are a number of reasons that collecting vintage guitars is an excellent strategy. For one, they’re more tangible than a stock or bond. They give you an attractive piece to display, and are fun to collect, too. Guitars also don’t lose value over time. In fact, it’s just the opposite – vintage guitars consistently gain value as they get older, as long as you take the time to keep them in good condition. They’re also usually superior instruments. If you’re a musician as well as an investor, you’ll appreciate the superior action and tone of a real vintage instrument. The most popular vintage guitar with collectors is probably the Gibson Les Paul. Gibson invented the modern electric guitar, and in the 1960s, the Les Paul was one of the best instruments available. While these are still made today, they don’t stand up to the quality of older models, which are made of oak, mahogany, and other fine materials. You can even find examples with mother of pearl and gold inlays! Another brand you’ll probably recognize is Fender. The Telecaster, Stratocaster, and Thunderbird are all great models that remain favorites. The best were made in the 1950s and 1960s. After that, Fender guitars are less valuable. Learn about the guitars that carry the best value before you buy, so you’ll be able to make a smart decision. CF Martin is yet another of the great vintage guitar brands. These amazing acoustic instruments are among the finest, and have craftsmanship that can’t be matched. Martin invented the use of the X-bracing system in acoustics. That means that his instruments lasted for far longer than competitors’. Some of the original Martin guitars are now nearly a hundred years old. Collectible CF Martin guitars are valuable up through the 1960s models. Guild guitars are great vintage instruments, too, but they’re a lot less famous. That’s because the company only did business for about twenty-five years before Fender bought it in the 1990s. Older Guild instruments are very rare, and considered on par with Martin guitars of the same period. Any of these instruments would be a great investment piece for musicians, or anyone who loves music. Even if you just like the look of a beautiful old guitar, think about purchasing a vintage one. You’ll be surprised at what a good investment it could turn out to be. If you are interest in getting started collecting vintage guitars for fun and profit or even if you have been doing so for years and wish to add to your collection, Bob’s Vintage Guitars is a website that you should visit. It has a lot of useful information about vintage guitars and also a great selection of vintage guitars for sale.

Electric guitar or acoustic guitar is a fundamental choice you have to do before you register up for an initial guitar course. It is important to choose the option that is good for you. You can take the acoustic guitar with you everywhere you go. An acoustic guitar stands for ambiance when pick-nicking with friends or relatives. The park, the beach, the bus, etc. it is hard to think any place where the acoustic guitar cannot come along. A traditional guitar place for the same tool as an acoustic guitar. A large wooden body and strings made out of nylon are usual for this type of guitar. If you want an amplifier or you can forget to hear sound and the strings are made out of metal than you are holding an electric guitar. Without amplifier there is simply no sound. Guitar cables are also a need with the electrical guitar. A prominent advantage of this electrical guitar is that your fingers will be in good shape. With a classical guitar there is a need to press harder on those guitar strings and hurting fingers is often a reality. Some beginning guitarists are easily confused however with some extra buttons and also knobs found on an electrical guitar. The size and shape of an electrical guitar is than again more practical for hopeful guitar performers. Its neck and also the body are considerably more convenient to many. If fund is tight the acoustic or classical guitar is definitely the instrument of choice. The basic skills are the same for both tool types. If you play electrical guitar, than you also master the acoustic guitar because the techniques, talents, and beliefs are identical. Rock music definitely favors the electrical version. If you are the guy who likes to play along with acoustic audio that is playing than an acoustic guitar is the instrument of choice. Carefully think towards what kind of music you are learning. That aspect is what makes all the difference. Rock music can be associated more with the electrical guitar and acoustic music with the classical instrument choice. Not just the type of music needs to be considered when you make your choice. There are some other variations that can change your mind. The expenses associated to the electrical version are considerably higher because of the extra things that are needed and also the actual tool is more expensive. Hopeful guitarists should however still make a selection between both variants because both guitar types have advantages and con’s. The pro’s and con’s need to be stated of both instruments and choosing the right instrument based on just these features is not the most realistic choice. It is indeed the choice of music that should make you come to a result.

Before you begin with the rock guitar lessons, you need to understand that this will not make you a lead guitar star overnight. Rock guitar lessons will only teach you the basics and advanced techniques. You still need to understand and practice enough to be able to master the art of performing rock guitar. The first phase in rock guitar courses will start with theory which will help you to understand the basic parts of the rock/electric guitar, standard notations, guitar symbols, and basic chord theory. You will also learn to play different scales and chords. You will discover to utilize your views and sentiments to perform the guitar so that in the later stages when you are ready to play, you and your guitar will become one!The next phase of rock guitar lessons will focus on soloing. You may have been overcome by those amazing guitar solos that you have watched at live concerts or on Channel V or VH1. So here’s your chance to learn soloing, which will include beginner, intermediate, and advanced lessons. In the beginner lessons you will understand more about hammer-ons, bends, open position scales, and vibratos. The intermediate lesson is where you will discover to do your own solo and perform it as well. You will also get to learn how to use natural harmonics and play major scale modes. When you reach the advanced soloing lessons, you will be confident enough to produce your solos and this will persuade you to play them more often. The advanced rock guitar courses will help you to perform different techniques especially with speed. Speed is an important part of performing the rock guitar as well as soloing and you will really have to rehearse a lot to be able to move your hand freely across the guitar chords at high speed. Once you have mastered the scales, the chords and how to fly your hand over the guitar, you are ready to rock!Rock guitar is not easy to understand but then it is not impossible because we will handhold you through each and every step of our rock guitar lessons. We see a potential rock guitar player in each of our students and learn the need to bring that rock star to the front and our rock guitar lessons have been developed to bring out your true talent. Rock Guitar Lessons – Playing Rock!Rock is one of the most well-liked genres of music that came into existence in the early 1960’s and the one tool that represents rock perfectly is the guitar.

Guitar lessons software has some significant differences versus online guitar lessons. This can be valuable to understand for the guitar student who is looking for effective guitar learning tools, but does not know what some of the differences may be between these very different learning modalities. Guitar lessons software is a computer program that you load onto your computer at home. Online guitar lessons are an internet interface that you do not load onto your computer, but access via your internet connection. This may seem like a non-important concept until you learn about how they are different and how your learning and ability to accomplish more on your guitar can be by affected by these different forms of guitar lessons. Online guitar lessons are only available by logging in to a system with a per session charge or by maintaining a subscription fee. This means that you never always have unlimited access to your lessons once paid for. Either the one time fee needs to be paid again to retake a lesson, or you only have access as long as you maintain the subscription. Years later how much to you have to pay to retake certain lessons; Are they always still going to be available? Your internet service must be working properly and the particular service that you are accessing needs to be functioning properly. With many companies disappearing in today’s business world, you have no guarantees that you can have access to all of the content. Guitar software on the other hand, that you load onto your computer and run on your computer, is always accessible without any internet access, and you have it on your computer to use the lessons for years, as opposed to being on a server elsewhere. You only pay one time, and can restudy the material as often as necessary. Retaking a lesson over, and over again, and referring back to the same lesson content at much later times, is essential to mastering the material. Online guitar lessons also are often a smorgasbord of various ideas and concepts from various teachers. This provides no continuity of learning and leaves the guitar student with lots of neat ideas that are independent and various. This reflects in the students limited playing ability as it become obvious the student has no real understanding of the instrument other than in a fragmented way. High quality guitar software on the other hand offers a fully cohesive instruction system. This is important to your consistency of practice and learning and is necessary to ever to reach any higher level of guitar knowledge and playing skill. Online guitar lessons also do not have the technology of training and teaching tools that a high end guitar software program offers. It simply isn’t available. Increasing your guitar playing ability in a manner where you gain results in this lifetime, in a shorter period of time, than in many, many years is important to many guitar students. Any tool or idea available can be helpful. But you don’t want helpful, you want progress. You don’t need a few more ideas, your need real skills and understanding. So as you evaluate various learning systems such as guitar lessons software versus online guitar lessons, you can make more productive decisions for your personal learning choices as you are flooded with a tremendous amount of options for guitar learning.

What is a fingerpicking guitar? There has always been a division of acoustic guitars between “folk” and “classical” which mostly refers to whether the guitar is fitted with nylon or steel strings. A nylon string guitar is ideal for fingerpicking because it is easier on the finger nails. The steel string guitars are suited to flatpicking but some people do play fingerstyle on steel strings. Some guitar makers have recently taken up the practice of calling certain guitars – like the Martin OM-2 - “fingerpicking guitars”. Is this label really accurate? Is one guitar really better for fingerpicking than another? Some people say that guitars best suited for fingerstyle measure one and three-quarter inches across the nut and guitars better for flatpicking measure one and eleven-sixteenth inches. That could be getting a little technical. Of course Dreadnought size guitars, that many guitarists see as flatpicking guitars are a bit awkward for fingerpicking. This is not a universal opinion – some players prefer the larger size guitars for fingerstyle. There’s even evidence that Merle Travis played a Martin D28. The Dreadnought guitar was specifically designed to project sound in a live, unplugged setting. As most of the live acoustic gigs of the time were oriented to bluegrass, this would suggest that the larger guitar was made for the flatpicker. Indeed flatpicking sounds excellent on a Dreadnought or one of the larger style guitars because they produce a uniformly big sound. This contrasts with the smaller guitars that do not have such an overpowering bass but have wider nuts to accommodate fingerstyle players. A guitar like the Martin D28 is ideally suited to bluegrass, gospel, country and rock. Everybody agrees that the guitar has a great bass response but some people actually find the treble a little on the thin side. Of course, the strings you choose to play on has some bearing on the sound. A guitar that does not need to be picked with a great deal of force will always be better suited to fingerstyle players. The guitars with small bodies are thought by a lot of guitarists to be fingerstyle guitars because the treble notes are not overpowered by the bass as would be the case with Dreadnoughts. This article has given you some of the opinions from all sides of the debate about whether particular guitars are for fingerstle or flatpicking. In the real world nobody takes any notice of rules or specifications. You find a guitar that you like to play and you stay with it.

There are literally dozens of guitar brands on the market, some good, some bad and some unbelievably excellent. If you want the best sound and quality, then it really does pay to choose a good brand name. You`ll pay more initially, but it`s worth it since you`ll just have to replace a cheap guitar pretty quickly. Going with an established name will pretty much ensure you`re getting great quality. If you`re serious about playing, then you should definitely take a look at one of the following guitars. FenderThis company is probably the best known when it comes to top of the line guitars. This is where the famous Stratocasters come from . . . the original guitars in this line are now worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Fender also produces custom guitars, many of which can be seen in the hands of famous musicians like Santana. GibsonAnother very popular guitar brand is Gibson, running almost neck in neck with Fender for quality. This brand has pretty much cornered the upper levels of the electric guitar market, though they also produce high quality acoustic instruments. Among musicians who use Gibson brand guitars are Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins and the Allman Brothers Band. YamahaWell known as a musical company, Yamaha isn`t just a keyboard brand. They also turn out some great guitars that are sturdy and well suited to the life of a musician. Many of their designs are actually copies of more popular designs from the US, but they also have some original designs of their own that sell very well. It`s a brand name that is trusted, so many new musicians opt for this brand. OvationThese guitars are quite distinctive in how they look. With a rounded back and fibrglass body, Ovation guitars can`t be mistaken for any other brand. Besides the bowl-like back of the instrument, the sound holes are also different. Rather than one large hole, as other guitars have, these instruments tend to have groupings of smaller holes. Despite the odd looks, they are considered precision and provide great sound. MartinThis brand is also known for its superiority in the world of guitars. Martins are usually more affordable than the top of the line guitars, but still produces excellent instruments. These guitars tend to be larger than the average acoustic guitar and are very popular among players who enjoy playing acoustic. AlvarezWhen it comes to acoustic guitars, Alvarez is certainly one of the first guitar brands that comes to mind. With over 60 years of experience in making precision instruments, Alvarez actually comes from a long Japanese line of well made classical instruments. JacksonBest known for the unique design of their guitars, Jackson instruments were originally meant to look like the Fender Strat, but quickly became a hardcore version made for rockers. The Jackson guitar line is usually associated with rock and metal music. GuildWhile perhaps not as well known as some of the above guitar brands, this is a good, solid company with years of excellent guitar making behind it. Guild is 100% American and has been around since the 1940`s. They are best known for making jazz guitars, but have since expanded into other areas, providing distinctive musical instruments and guitars. There are plenty of different guitar brands to choose from, but if you want an instrument that will give you the quality of sound that you want and something that will last for a good long time, then it`s worth looking at the best in the business. The brands above are all top of the line and excellent guitars. Music School offering Grand Pianos Toronto, voice, guitar and voice lessons Oakville and the GTA area.

The guitar is both sweet and wild, depending on the type of sound that the guitar player makes out of it. The guitar player creates stories through the melodies of the songs he plays with the use of this basic principle: major chords produce sad tones while minor chords produce sadder ones. With that in mind, you immediately get the idea how musical scores in film move its listeners and support the ambience or mood suggested by each scene, but that’s another story. But first let’s see how useful guitar lessons for beginners really are. Guitar playing is always about user-compatibility. For beginners who’d want to take a crack at playing the guitar, several aspects of the instrument come to mind. First of all, who are your influences, what tunes are in your iPod and what type of guitar do you want to rock? The guitar, both electric and acoustic, is made up of the same parts: headstock, tuners, the neck, frets, the body, strings and the bridge. An electric guitar is often identified as a solid body-amplified guitar while acoustics are called hollow-bodies that have sound holes. The size of each neck differs as well as the strings and frets; usually, acoustic guitars sport nylon strings and fat necks while electric guitars use steel strings and have thinner neck widths. There are two very different guitar styles. Those who take up lessons on classical guitar playing are likely more used to playing the instrument while sitting down, without a guitar pick and using the natural acoustics of the concert hall to be clearly heard. Electric guitarists on the other hand make use of a wide variety of guitar effects that produce astonishing sounds like dive bombs and wails and they prefer using guitar picks and straps. Any guitar lesson for beginners will tell you that playing the guitar is never a tedious task especially if you love how lovely notes can sound. These notes are found all over the neck. Each fret, depending on the string being picked, represents a variety of notes ranging from A to G. There are major chords, minor chords, diminished and augmented chords that can be formed when a group of notes are combined. These are called chords and they allow for the creation of colorful tunes that fill our mp3 players. A guitar player switches from one chord to the other and manages to take into account other aspects of music such as timing and rhythm. Every chord on the guitar will have an equivalent scale pattern. A major chord will definitely have a major scale while the minor scale corresponds to all minor chords. A guitar player who plays lead solos must incorporate all types of scales and play these scales in accordance with the type of chord being played. This allows him to stay in tune and express his creativity all throughout the guitar piece or your favorite song. Scale movements on the guitar are very similar to other instruments like the piano and the flute. The greatest guitar players in the world began with these basic lessons but with a really large appetite for learning and being great. If you have these primary qualities, go out and buy the instrument now. Who knows, maybe someday you’ll be a Gibson spokesperson like Slash! Good luck and keep in mind that guitar lessons for beginners really help a lot!

If you enjoy the idea of learning the guitar and you visualize yourself sitting down and playing your favorite songs for your own enjoyment, acoustic guitar tabs give you the possibility of realizing your dream. You can pick up an acoustic guitar any time of the day or night and play without disturbing your family or neighbors. Some people even play the acoustic guitar while the family is watching TV in the same room! Tablature, or tab, is the ideal way for any beginner guitar player to learn or for a more seasoned guitarist to learn new material quickly. A basic definition of guitar tab is a diagram showing the guitar strings with the frets where the guitarist is to play the notes indicated by numbers. Quite often a guitarist approaching a new piece of music will struggle with conventional music notation whereas tab is a quick and easy way of getting the feel of a new piece. Also a pianist or other musician can look at a piece of guitar sheet music and play it right away but would have no hope of playing from guitar tab because it is only written for one instrument. Another limitation of guitar tab is that you won’t be able to learn the rhythm from it. You will need a strumming pattern diagram or, having heard the song before, have some idea of how to approach the playing of the rhythm. If you are prepared to live with these limitations tablature will be a great tool for you to learn your favorite songs quickly. When you search the internet for acoustic guitar tab what kind of music can you expect to find? Well, the variety is astonishing. Basically acoustic guitar tab is written with the idea of the guitar supplying the basic accompaniment for the song. So if you are a singer wanting to interpret the lyrics, your interest in the guitar arrangement may be slight. The second thing acoustic guitar tab usually gives you is the notes for any distinctive melody or riff in the song – music that people recognize before they hear the words being sung. A simple example of this is the few notes repeated throughout the record of “Something” by The Beatles. Of course you are quite free to leave out or change any music to make the arrangement your own. Acoustic guitar tabs are often fingerstyle arrangements of songs. These arrangements will not be readily available in music stores or the usual sources of sheet music on the internet. Fingerstyle arrangements can give you some added depth to your guitar playing even if you don’t utilize all the techniques shown in the tab. Finally there is one advantage to using acoustic tab for electric guitar players. You can learn the muisc for the song without having to set up your guitar and amp. You can work on arranging your song for electric guitar once you know the chords and the basic structure. I hope I have given you something to think about if you have not given tabs for acoustic guitar much of a look so far. If you look around you will be quite amazed at the range of popular – and obscure – music available.

In high school, did you ever dream about starting your own rock band? Want to duplicate the soothing sounds of folk tunes for family and friends? Does your favorite musician work magic with a Gibson ES 335? Is Jimi Hendrix your idol? It doesn’t matter the reason why you want to play the guitar – a seed has been planted and now it is time to nurture the desire.
Where to begin? Playing guitar (whether for fun or professionally) takes patience and determination. By following a few tips, you can harness your passion or interest for the instrument. You will also find that fueling your creativity and developing this new form of expression will take time. Great guitar players do not blossom overnight.
Purchasing a Guitar
Before you start learning the ropes of guitar playing, you’re going to need an instrument to carry out your lessons. The type of music you wish to play will determine the kind of guitar you require. For example, an acoustic guitar is used to generate the sounds of country, ragtime or folk. The body of the guitar is large and hollow, creating a sound that many deem “natural. ” Rock music often utilizes an electric guitar, which offers a rather distinctive amplified sound. Additional guitars to look into include the steel, solid body, archtop, resonator, bass and twelve-string guitar.
With the purchase of a guitar, there are other necessary pieces of basic equipment. A guitar pick is required to help play the chords of your instrument. The size of guitar pick is quite small, prompting easy breakage and it can also be easily misplaced. This is why beginners should have a good number of guitar picks on hand. When purchasing picks, the medium gauge varieties are suggested because they are less apt to break. You should also invest in a comfortable chair.
Getting Lessons
While some guitar players are able to naturally experiment with chords by ear and strum along with less guidance, others require the assistance of structured lessons. There are numerous ways to learn how to play the guitar. If you are able to afford a private tutor, you can take advantage of one-on-one instruction, which may speed up the learning process. Sometimes, beginners benefit from group learning, which provides a wealth of constructive criticism. The Internet also offers a way for beginners to privately learn online. Some websites offer a computer keyboard lesson on learning scales, which some beginners find quite easy.
Whichever approach you take in learning to play guitar, you should know that setting goals for yourself makes the process more rewarding. Achieving personal milestones further motivates your desire to find a common ground with the instrument and who knows how far your lessons will take you.
Recognizing why you want to play guitar in the first place will also help you to better accomplish your goals. Some people want to learn to play for fun, peaking with a performance in front of family and friends. Others would like to share their talents with a slightly larger crowd, probably visiting a few coffee shops or open-mic nights. Then there are the masses of learners who have bigger dreams of taking to a stage in front of thousands. No matter what the goal is, you can’t get there without loads of practice.
What You Will Learn
Guitar lessons usually start with building a basic foundation, such as how to properly hold the guitar and establishing correct posture when playing. There is a wide range of techniques involved in playing the guitar and after a few lessons, you may start to find your niche.
One of the most important things to focus on when playing a guitar is understanding and mastering the chords. There are books and charts to help you along this important part of the process. There are many different chords to familiarize yourself with and taking them one at a time will lead to better results.
Additional areas of guitar instruction may include learning how to properly hold a pick, memorizing scales, tackling music theory and selecting a music style. Instrument maintenance, such as tuning and caring for your guitar is also of importance.
Sticking With It
Staying motivated is one of the best things you can do when learning to play the guitar. It is easy to become frustrated with a new project and abandon it before truly experiencing any benefits. On some days, you may have to dig deep to reclaim your passion and dedication. Other days, you could be composing the next pop hit. Give the process a chance and remember that it takes time to get the hang of this instrument. The best thing you can do is continue to practice and soon, you will reap the rewards of hard work and focus.

If you look around you will be quite amazed at the range of popular – and obscure – music available.
